I work in proximity to my manager, so we're seeing each other all the time. It's not like we have to schedule one on one meetings, the work week just tends to create them as things happen. The periodic reviews are fairly routine, it's not like something dramatic is suddenly going to appear from out of nowhere.

Yea that's fair. I think that's why my manager and I usually cancel or push our biweekly one on one meetings. I still like to have them from time to time to get a small break from work and also get to potentially learn more about my manager outside of the immediate work that we're doing but yea haven't been having them recently since I basically work with her every day so we're pretty much on the same page
I love my manager; he is very approachable, and he always wants my input. We work in a small company, so he always blocks time for his team for one-on-one conversations, and he has office hours, where we can go for any kind of quick chat. It's the best approach I have for this so far, and while I am not getting a raise this year because of the market. He has already set goals to review for the next evaluation and for a raise. I can't complain.

Love that you have such a nice and approachable manager!! My manager also encourages setting up 1:1 time on a specific cadence just to touchbase and it's a good way to breakdown some of that initial awkwardness making work easier too
We have a yearly review and that is pretty much it. My boss only meets with us otherwise if there is a problem. So you pretty much know come review time how you are going to do.

Do you feel like you don't need to touchbase because you're working day to day with them already so that it doesn't warrant any additional time unless an issue comes up? I'm used to having biweekly 1:1s (although recently we've been pushing) so interested in hearing more about how things work on your end
