What are some emerging trends or technologies that we should be aware of? Not sure where to keep up on this.

Telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and wearable trackers. are emerging trends. I attend a few conferences a year to keep up as well as listen to some podcasts. My favorite podcasts are VetBlast and The Veterinarian Innovation Podcast.

Definitely, AI and state-of-the-art imaging technology is booming right now. The digitalization we can see in the field of disease diagnosis and monitoring is exceptional. Digital techniques employed in the examination of blood or bodily fluids, for instance, are becoming part of the everyday routines for vets.

Pets are literally jumping on the technology bandwagon too. I mean we’re way over chips now. We’re talking smart feeders and bowls, wearables for pets, and nearly every piece of toy or tool around them collecting, monitoring, and sending data to their owners and vets. The info is going to be there and this gives us a great data source to work with.

I took 4 years off from being a vet assistant first to have my daughter, and then because I didn’t want to start working during a pandemic. I’ve been applying everywhere and I’m not getting a call. Bad luck? Or is the gap scaring them off?

I need help. I think I’m being underpaid at my job I’ve been at for 3 1/2 years. I’m a full time receptionist for a veterinary hospital but I also manage the reception area (I answer all questions and if someone makes a mistake I’m the one the fix it) and am an in house trained veterinary assistant but can do a techs job (unlicensed) and I do help the technicians out anytime they need and I’m only getting paid $13 an hour while a crew member at arbys gets paid $15 . What should I do ?

If you're being told "take your full lunch" (because by law you need to be given a certain amount of lunch depending on how many hours you work) but then you're told, if work's not done you need to stay until it is, and now people don't want to take their full lunches because it means they'll have to stay after work longer, is that coercion a violation of any federal labor laws?

How do you address pay discrepancies? I just found out a VT hired a year after me, with less experience, is making $2 more an hour. She was hired when they were desperate for staff which I’m guessing is why, but I’ve felt bitter ever since finding out.

I’m a very experienced veterinary assistant who has been doing this job for about 4 years in total however because of my skill level I would say I am more of an unlicensed technician. I’m looking for input on what I should ask for a raise. Given the minimum wage, I make about $5 over but that hasn’t really changed to match inflation of living, etc and truly feel like I should be making a decent amount more given my skills. Any helpful advice?
