Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?
Best custom suits place?

It depends on who you represented and the conflicts requirements of the firm you’d be going to.
I worked at an AmLaw 150 firm representing two carriers in first party homeowners disputes. This summer I had the opportunity to join an AmLaw 50 firm doing strict commercial litigation work (I wanted to get away from ID and wanted nothing to do with insurance work). Come to find out, the firm I was joining had a robust insurance recovery practice and had been adverse to both the clients I had at my firm. New firm wanted conflicts waivers from both carriers (even though I wouldn’t be touching insurance work).
One of the carriers happily signed. The other refused. Wouldn’t even negotiate with me on the terms. Didn’t matter to them that I wouldn’t be touching insurance work and that I’d be at a 1000 lawyer firm and completely walled off. They just wouldn’t sign a waiver. New firm pulled the offer.
Luckily I eventually landed with another similar level firm and had no conflicts issues there.
When I tried to level up from my AmLaw200 carrier side practice to AmLaw50 policyholder gigs, I ran headfirst into conflicts concerns as a young associate. Total BS. But the fact they pulled this on you over homeowners claims when you’re switching to commercial lit is pure insanity
Thank you for telling the perils of getting into insurance work. They pretty much own you for your professional life unless you get out rather early on.
Avoid at all costs, unless you love insurance work.
If you can clear conflicts (and A1 got totally hosed, btw), then they will probably love to have you. You will know a lot of substance, but also probably be more “housebroken” than a typical small firm hire. Plus, there aren’t a ton of us in coverage land. (Everyone wants to do boring stuff like IP and employment for some reason) They need warm bodies.
Couldn’t agree more on the “totally hosed” comment lol.
