First thought: 🔥
Second thought: jealousy
Final thought: consider an 116600 if birth year is not as important as the actual watch.
Bracelet is great and the ceramic is brilliant. I also like the more symmetrical look of the markers extending all the way around the bezel. The 116600 is my only luxury watch and I wouldn’t trade it for the world (or even a 50% profit, which is actually attainable).

I love the 16600 - think it’s an awesome choice. It will likely retain a good amount of its value - I think that a couple years ago, they might have been trading in the 8-10 range compared to the 10-12 range we see now, but you’re not going to lose your shirt.
The bracelet is noticeably less robust than the ceramic-era Rolex watches, but it’s the same as any other five-digit reference. Make sure you try it on before you buy since it might not be what you’re expecting - that said, I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker and if you want a birth year watch, you’re probably not gonna do my better.

Sorry - missed one of your questions. When buying used, buy the seller, then the watch. You might pay a bit more but it’s better to buy from a trusted quantity than it is to save a little by buying from someone who’s more of an unknown.

Also what should I look out for when buying an older piece?
I would plan on getting it serviced by Rolex, or pay up on one that has been serviced recently. They can make it mechanically new, and likely cosmetically if you want. I think for this piece that is going to be the best way to retain value.
That’s perfect, Rolex suggests service every 10 years. If you got a good price, it sounds like a good find.

In response to PM1 - do NOT get it polished, and try to avoid one that ha been polished. From a collectors perspective this hurts the value not insignificantly.
Mechanical refurbishment as necessary is completely ok but avoid cosmetic changes.
