What do you do if you filed a personal injury suit against a business and you learn they filed for bankruptcy two years ago? The company is self insured. Do you continue to push or drop the lawsuit?

Can you pierce the corporate veil for being underinsured? Then go after the principal owners?

like

As long as they were insured when the bankruptcy was filed you should be good

like

They’re self insured

Does the action date from before they filed bankruptcy? That is the first question you have to answer.

I should have worded that better. Does the INJURY date from before they filed bankruptcy? If so, it could be barred by any bankruptcy discharge stay, if there is one. You will need to spend more time looking at the bankruptcy docket to see what chaoter they file under, how the cases ended, etc. And then look at the code.

My current salary is under market average for my position but based off my coworkers’ negative experiences with asking for raises/promotions, I’m not really sure how to go about starting the conversation with my manager. There’s also a rumor going around that the company is going to scale back on our marketing efforts even though our VP tells us a different story. Either way I need more money and I just want to have that conversation before I begin looking for a new job.

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

How normal is it to be pulled off a trial team because you tell your boss you are moving after trial? I have a trial coming up first week of Oct. This case has been my baby, and I’m going to try it with my boss. I tell my boss up front that, for family reasons, I’ve gotten a new job and will be moving to another city two weeks after trial will likely end. Managing attorneys in small firms - how much do you make?

I'm in South Florida. Currently a 6 year associate at a small firm (~12 attorneys, 55 staff). Making a move towards Managing Attorney position that they are considering hiring from outside the firm for. I'm going to make the case that they should promote from within and give me the position. I'm objectively a good candidate for it. Question is... what's a good salary for that position? What do you make? Thanks.
