What does “good standing” mean (performance based or more egregious issues)? Just received a subpar review for last year and was asked to improve performance for the next period. I’m still being staffed normally. Am I in good standing? Should I start looking for another job?

Not on a PIP is good standing

Being asked to improve performance is a PIP (unless you need it spelled out). But I think generally still good standing but since bonus is discretionary at most firms, they can say it was part of the determination that they took into consideration and not give you full bonus (if that’s your concern)

So my VP at my previous company felt bad and refused to speak to me or attend my farewell after my resignation. His reason was that I somehow betrayed his trust as he had promoted me just last year (after keeping the position open for 4 months and letting me take additional work load after the previous SM left!). Does this make any sense? I mean where does this sense of entitlement or ownership over the employees come from? No wonder the company in question is kind of facing a literal exodus!

Tips for bankruptcy associates who eventually want to move in-house? 3rd year associate in bankruptcy/restructuring group doing mainly bk lit but a few deals too. Need to stay in BL for at least another year for the money, but eventually want to move in-house. The path to in-house seems more straightforward for general commercial lit or more standard transactional practices. Any tips for someone who’s practice is a bit of a hybrid (and who will never likely do discovery or handle a depo)
