I hate rejecting interviewees. :( some of them are genuinely nice people and I think many of them have potentials, but just not the right fit for my team because of skill sets and experience level. I know there’s no perfect candidate and all but some are just not going to be the right hires. It’s ny first time hiring ppl so it feels very uncomfortable and guilty. And I think “hiring based on attitude” is very idealistic and not applicable in most real life scenarios

Is it common for company to ask to talk to your references before being offered the job? I’m currently interviewing for an IP position for a biotech start-up (I would be the first lawyer in the company). I interviewed with 6 people. They said it’s b/w me and 1 candidate and they want to talk with our references before deciding. I prefer to have my current supervisors give my reference but obv don’t want to tell them until I’ve seen the offer and I prefer to not use old supervisors. Thoughts?

I have decided to move on from the position & company I am at now (been here 8 months) due to the stress of my job and lack of support from management . I have begun to apply for jobs and they ask for my manager’s information. I have not yet notified my manager that I am looking to leave yet and feel I would incur a negative response if I notify them now.

What is best practice? Should I notify recruiters to not reach out to my manager yet or notify my manager I am looking to move on?

My last position was a senior manager. I had a prior co-worker contact me today saying they have an open rec for an analyst level position I would be a good fit for. Had a convo with him as I have no issue with a step down (maybe) but I’m used to sr mgr level compensation. He mentioned that there is wiggle room with the title and could be a lead. When I speak to the recruiter, how should I address? If they ask my comp req and it’s double an analyst salary am I shooting myself in the foot?

I have joined oracle on monday. They told me the project is in Angular as I was working on Angular latest framework. Today I noticed the code on shared screen. I can not work on older technology. I have not received laptop yet and I called manager about tech stack of project then he told me that yes it is not angular project. What should I do.. should I continue here and collect laptop ?
