Traditional is usually the standard and has Initiative expectations. I would definitely shoot for traditional over Project delivery and USDC.
I came from Booz Allen as well and definitely reccomend traditional if you have broad consulting skills/experience. The PDM does work for some that like to focus on niche tech fields and don’t care about up and out or firm initiatives
Project path = Project Delivery Model (PDM). PDM staff are not core employees, their employment is entirely on their ability to stay on a project, and they are not entitled to the same benefits. They do not have the up or out model either.
Rising Star
Pay tends to be commensurately worse as well.
Project delivery is usually more technical or rote work, and is paid less than the Traditional model. I’ve also heard that bench time is limited - if you can’t find a project after x months, you’ll be let go. For what it’s worth I work with a few delivery folks and they’re still looped into firm initiatives, but small sample size.
Geez, weeks?? Super rough
Feel free to PM me if you want to chat, I came from Booz. While for some very specific types of folks the PDM model can work, if you’ve got broader consulting experience, would strongly recommend against for a number of reasons.
PDM is the same as most of BAH, you’re tied to an account/project and you have limited to no bench time.
Traditional is what you actually want. There is likely zero upside to PDM when you factor in the god awful independence issues that come along with working at a Big4.
Thank you everyone for the responses! It looks like the traditional path is the way to go. The recruiter gave me a vibe that she wanted me to go down the project path because the salary they could offer would be higher. But I’ll dig deeper next time we speak.
