If you feel like you’re doing two people’s jobs do two people’s jobs. As an ACD trying to move up, how cool is it that you can manage and mentor your partner and help them punch above their title?
There’s a reason you were paired with them, whether it’s being short staffed (impress by making it work), your bosses thinking your title is too high (show it’s not), or you being a good leader/mentor (go lead/mentor).
For what it’s worth, I’ve been on projects this year partnered with a gcd and partnered with a sr ad and had success with both
That response though it may appear thoughtful, doesn't actually help that persons career. If those actions were championed and noted it may be a positive thing, but Dentsu doesn't promote one half or a team. Unless they are having you work with multiple creatives there's no way for your contributions to stand out.
I’ve been in this scenario recently. And I can assure you your CDs can tell if you’re doing most/2x the work. And How you go about it says everything about your ability to move up. If you just bite the bullet, continue forward, mentor your partner and don’t throw them under the bus (it’s not their fault you got paired with them nor is it their fault they have less experience), they’ll see it and give you a tick in the right column.
Allow your partner to make mistakes or present ideas that maybe you yourself wouldn’t have put forward. Your CDs can identify if you’re easy to work with or a pain in the ass - you’ve got to try to lift the lesser experienced person up the best you can without making it about you (they can tell a junior idea from a senior one). If you are able to move up this is a test of how you’ll manage teams who are new or inexperienced or not that great and your job will be to help guide them.
Ask to be partnered with a woman. She’ll help you level up in no time. 😉
I’m sorry this is happening to you. If this is a permanent partnership, they think your partner is punching above their weight or you’re not actually as senior as your title. If it’s just for a project or two, just bite the bullet.
Mentoring can be another feather in your cap. Look at this in a positive way, not negative. I had fun mentoring younger producers when I was on staff. If you have been in this biz long enough, you gain a lot of wisdom and valuable insights to impart.

I feel this ain’t normal in the industry nowadays. I’ve heard stories that it was more common in the past. But not so much anymore
