Nothing wrong with the soul. Small footprint, good interior space, cheap to maintain, distinctive styling.
I prefer the Nissan Cube for styling but the Soul isn’t a bad shout. Can pick up a second hand 2019 model for around $14k

Buy a Toyota. You will spend essentially nothing on maintaining it.

You can’t go wrong with a Golf, Focus, or civic. Are you buying used? I ask only because with living in seattle and having a shiny new car that is likely to get dinged would make me a little sick. A gently used version might be better.
Honda HR-V. Sits a little higher than a compact, but similar dimensions for city driving and parking.
Get a VW Golf if it’s in the budget
I think the Kia Soul might technically be a compact SUV but it's around the same size so I get it. Why doesn't she want an SUV?
She lives close to downtown Seattle and says an SUV is more difficult for her to maneuver and park on small streets.
What year is the Fiesta? If she really likes the Fiesta they are rumoured to be stopping production of the car from 2023 so if she wants a new one now would be her chance.
I’ll be buying a new fiesta early next year as I’ve had mine for 13 years and never had any issues with it.
Ah yeah might just be Europe then that has them until 2023

I’m currently in a Nissan Rogue rental and I can tell you a Nissan Rogue is NOT it
I share this sentiment, Nissan products aren’t what they used to be
If you want to avoid getting a crossover or SUV, you can’t go wrong with a Corolla or Civic. The build quality is great, and they tend to hold up well over time. Insurance is affordable, they’re economical on gas, and maintenance items like brake pads will be cheap.
Mazda3 hatchback!
