In my personal opinion, with that time of experience in both things, you should be close to $70k a year, and if you ask me when is the time to look for a position as a manager, for me it is now, after 16 years it is time If you take on more responsibilities, let your boss know that you want more, otherwise they will assume that you are comfortable in your current position.
Thanks. Sounds like I'm right on target salary wise then. I'm definitely ready for the next step in management. I currently run the weekend shift for my account, but there is very little room to advance at my facility. Currently in the final round of interviews at a different company. It's an Area Manager position, but it's a $6k loss in base salary if I take the position. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the loss in pay to gain the title. Financially I can afford the loss, but is it worth it. Making less annually while taking a promotion sounds strange to me. This promotion would be an Area Manager position. Other facilities I've been at start entry level managers at $70k. I started as a floor level associate back in 08. Worked my way through multiple companies gaining titles and experience until I got to supervisor a few years ago.
I think you should be in a range between $65k to $72k, nothing less than that, and regarding applying for a position as operations manager, I think it all depends on the open variables in your company.
I think anything between 50k and 75k is good enough for this role. It all depends on what you do at work, your responsibilities, and if you feel like you're paid well.
I'm basically on target for that on the higher end. My role consists of all the typical supervisor functions. Hiring, counseling, firing, training, problem/conflict resolution, customer and carrier communications, creating /implementing more lean processes or even processes we decide we need for problems as they emerge, employee time cards/ job functions, determining error root cause, monitoring production, etc..
If you want to become an Operations Manager, I think the time is anytime you're prepared. You don't want to rush into a role that you don't know if you'll endure, but with 13 years of experience, I'd say you're more than ready, friend!
Thanks. I feel I'm more than ready. I already supervise my account on the weekend shift, basically nobody else is in the building so I'm already having to act in an ops manager capacity slightly. I have an offfer to return to my last comppany which i enjoyed working for and only left due to a larger salary, and a pass over for promotion. But, i also have my final interview for an Area Manager role with a different start up on Thursday. They're already 18 months in and this will be my 3rd start up in a row. It's not the promotion I want, but it's still a promotion. Unfortunately, it is a lower salary than what I'm currently at.
