I took 6 months with each baby, more than half unpaid. Worth it and wouldn’t change it.
Had horrible morning sickness so had to disclose early both times.
Here’s the thing: there is no “right way” to do this except in the way that is right for you, momma. Reject the urge to overthink this, to worry about judgements about you and your career. You have more than earned the position you are in and the right to take the time you need.
Very helpful, thank you 😊
The maximum offered. And whenever you want, with the caveat that you should ideally provide ample time for the team to plan for coverage.
The maximum the firm allows (18 wks + 6-8wks STD at mine). I told about week 10 because I was very sick all first trimester. I plan on telling even sooner for my next pregnancy, but understand other people wanting to wait until further along.

4-6 mos is typical.
Our firm only gives UP to 16 (depending on medical) and remainder STD. So I was more just curious how often and for how long women take STD after firm leave. 4 months doesn’t seem like enough time.
STD is typically the medical portion that runs beginning at the start of your leave. My firm is 12 weeks STD for the birthing parent followed by 10 weeks bonding leave. I have never heard of STD being able to be taken after a different type of leave, so I would clarify this with your HR.
