Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

Mohawk and Humber tend to put out decent students. I think centennial might be the third.
Whichever, though, the real make or break comes down to how seriously you take it and how hard you work.
A hard working student at a worse program will likely do better than a lazy student in a good program.

If you mean like an educational course, I would advise you not to invest in that right now.

Why did Miami Ad close here? Looks like they're still running in other cities.
Rising Star
A lot of great writers in the industry have come out of the Humber one year program.
Education can only take you so far, it's more on the student (passion, interest, drive, talent) than the school. Any copywriting program in Toronto is decent and will teach you the fundamentals. If you're out of high school, Miami Ad School (if it's still open) or any 2-3 year program at Humber or Mohawk might be better to give you runway to build some maturity and life experience (which is important in advertising). If you've already done an undergrad degree and looking for an accelerated program, the Humber 1-year program might be a better fit.
But I'll echo what others have mentioned, copywriting isn't a great path to go down right now, and if I had the choice now, I'd consider something else. I graduated from Humber 10 years ago and I wouldn't say I'm terribly happy with the trajectory of my career so far. Took me 1 year after graduating to land my first job. I hear it's more like 2 years now. And since I've been laid off/fired 4 times. I haven't had a full-time job with benefits since 2023. It's been contract work mostly. The industry is pretty shaky too right now. I left the agency world to work in-house with brands and rebranded with AI skills just to get more work.
ChatGPT is decent but the output needs to be tweaked slightly
Humber. But I heard they cancelled the program because of the low enrolment last year.
My understanding was that it was based on interest for that year. So it may not be completely 'done', but they'll have to see how many people show interest
Mohawk has been cranking out some of the best student books by far.
I went to Red River College and turned out OK
I did this as a joke and now I can't change it
