Honestly I’m not sure in this job market. I could see the company giving you a day or two and then going with the next candidate. I think previously the idea was that you could tell the second place you were interviewing elsewhere and were considering both offers. I don’t think it afforded a lot of time to respond either but put them off for a day or so.
I would wait for the employer to extend the offer, then thank them for the offer and tell them you'll follow up after you've had a chance to review the formal offer letter and any attachments/benefits info. If the offer has a deadline that you can't meet due to ongoing interviews, I would let then let them know that you're also in process with a few other employers and requesting until X date to see the process through so you can make the best decision for your career. Most employers will allow a reasonable extension in this circumstance if you're honest with them, but don't wait until the last day before the deadline to ask.
Never tell another employer your search plans. Respond to the offer and if you need time to review it, say that and ask them if they will extend that specific amount of time for you to do so.
