From an elder to this group with 40 years in IT and security, my suggestion is to understand how patience fits into your life. Your age can be a disadvantage and an advantage. A disadvantage because there will always be others more experienced who feel they need to embarrass the youngster. An advantage because you have time to perfect skills. Become the best in whatever your speciality is and others eventually will seek you out for advice and answers. Your expertise will prove to be your b
Look people up on LinkedIn that are in the fields you wanna go into. Go to networking sessions
Use alumni connections. Find them through linkedin, alumni events, etc.
First mistake is to call it a mentorship. You need to think of it as an apprenticeship and it needs to be a win win. Saying I want to further my career is not enticing to your “mentor” since you are essentially looking to use him / her to your benefit. Better seek out ppl you look up to and find what they are doing genuinely interesting and you’d love to help and learn the ropes. But note that there could be some grunt work involved but at the end it will pay off. Need to break some eggs to make
