What’s the minimum amount of WFH days you’d consider in this market? Couple offers that aren’t bad, but only one WFH day allowed for each.

It’s not the days working from home or in office, it’s more the quality of the in office days. Are you making me come in to justify space or are you intentional about building culture while having people in office. That’s the key to me.

How badly do you need a job and what are you bringing to the table that others aren't? That will inform your answer.

I make a pittance of a salary so I’d like a raise, but yeah…

Depends. I only have 1 WFH day now, but I have no minimum office hours and only a 15-20 min commute.

I’m in office 3 days and actually prefer it to when I was in office only 2 at my last job. But I can roll in after 9 and leave by 4:30. At my last firm before going in house I was in office 5 days and it was 5 long days where I barely saw my family. Never again.

Love that for you! Hoping to land a hybrid role soon 🙏🏾.

How long is the commute to the office? That's the real question.

like

How important is it to you? I can WFH 2x a week but I honestly usually only do it 1x week because I am more productive at the office.

We allow one work from home day presuming that minimum billing requirements are met for the prior month and that Office/Client matters take priority. That means that sometimes people get zero work from home days because they are working and their job requires them to be in the office.

Having people in the office, definitely changes the culture and provides our attorneys and paralegals with a significant amount of positive interaction that is not present when people are working from home. We are flexible on arrival time and departure time because sometimes people need to arrive late or leave early. That said everyone has to meet their minimum billing requirements. We have found that many people were not meeting minimum bill requirements when they were working from home 3+ days a week.

A close friend from abroad is looking to register an online business in NY and use her team abroad to do the work remotely. Since she is abroad, she asked me to register an LLC on my name and in exchange receive a share of the profit. Is there some management agreement under which risk can be capped. What’s the worst that can happen- business having to defend some litigation case…?

Need help settling a debate with my friend. She thinks I will have an easier time getting research grants because I'm male. I think it's the opposite because companies are trying to change the status quo and get more women involved (which I'm not complaining about... please don't attack me.) Which one of us is more right than the other? I'm interested in getting as many viewpoints as possible, whether or not they agree with me or with her. Thanks!!!

Please remember, when you’re asking for salary information, it’s important to mention where you are located. For example, $100,000 is going to be a lot more in Mississippi than in San Francisco. Thanks guys.

This is not my wheelhouse so I’m not sure of the answer. If someone is writing a “memoir” and is including me in it, and I DONT want to be in the book, do I have any legal recourse? I understand since it’s been published it doesn’t meet any invasion of privacy or potential defamation yet, but is there something I can do preliminarily to protect myself and stop my inclusion?

Transactional junior associate in biglaw. Working for a dedicated practice group rather than in an associate pool. For the past few months, I’ve been loaned to another practice group for a good chunk of time. While the people are decent and the hours aren’t terrible, I detest the work and don’t see a future in this new practice. My main partner says it should end in the next month, but I don’t expect that to happen. Is it a terrible idea to ask to be taken off?

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon?
