Client had 900 custom fields on the case object.
We had two projects going—one to find custom fields to remove; another that immediately used them to add a new feature.
Our case object has almost 800 fields. Over 200 of them have 0% utilization. No one knows why they were implemented, but the business unit won't let us delete them and they want more customization. ‘23 is going to be interesting!
Any Fortune 500 that has been a customer for 20 years. They do a lot of M&A and suffer from being early adopters of the platform without getting the internal budget to address tech debt.

We have 2 right now because we determined a greenfield fresh start oriented toward enterprise would be quicker and more cost effective than remediation our old org which is oriented toward individual consumers and is very old. We'll probably be back to 1 in a couple of years. But you probably don't want to know how many production orgs Salesforce themselves have, and that's despite the granddaddy of them all (org62) having most governor limits shut off or set with the limits crazy high...
Similar to yours! CPQ project, client completely maxed out the fields on Quote and Quote Line with financial metrics through formula fields. Super customized pricing system on top of that led to a crazy slow system. Was such a headache to map all the connections out and provide a different solution in lwc/apex that met other requirements at well that the old system simply couldn't handle

I think the only thing typical about CPQ implementation in an existing enterprise org is that they are a pain in the rear.
This was an experience in 2021. This organization had 4-6 orgs and were working to consolidate. I started gathering info. One of the orgs had nearly 1000 users. Soooooo many custom apps to be maintained. Some still in classic and teams refused to move. Absolute chaos to determine what people actually need. This all coupled with objects having 3-6 fields with the same name and no descriptions.
