Nothing really. They’re smart to be honest. For most people on this world they’re here to make money to pay their bills and other discretionary things. If they can get their money and work as little as possible, that’s a win in life.
At the end, you probably want to focus on yourself. What does thinking or judging others negatively do to yourself? Do you get better? Or are you wasting time over things you have no control over?
Literally kudos to them. Not to be too nihilistic but at the end of the day, these jobs are quite literally completely meaningless. We get to exist for such a small moment in time. I’m not going to waste my life on a job that really just doesn’t matter. I’m going to work as little as possible to make money and focus on things that actually matter, like enjoying the tiny fraction of time I have on this earth.
Just because you choose to base your value on your job doesn’t mean everyone else has to.
I didn’t find it defensive. On your deathbed you’ll never be like “I wish I would’ve charged more billable hours” . At least I won’t lol
HR doesn't transfer anyone. HR doesn't keep people employed nor does it get then terminated. If an employee is smart enough to say the right things then they are certainly smart enough to remain employed. Maybe their PowerPoint decks are garbage but they have a way with the client.
Maybe you as a colleague don't see that but when employee performance is discussed between management, HR and senior leadership, you better believe it's 90% attitude and 10% actual competence.
