The hesitation you feel is common because points feel like “free money,” so spending them can feel like a loss. The smartest approach is to view points as part of a currency system with a real value that should be spent strategically to maximize returns. Usually on experiences or purchases you wouldn’t want to spend cash on directly, such as travel upgrades, flights, or special events where the points redemption value surpasses the cash price. I personally set target redemptions like trips I want to take or big purchases planned in advance and wait until I can redeem points at their peak value (like transferring points to airline partners for premium cabins). Treat your points as a flexible resource: it’s better to use them thoughtfully than to let them expire or stagnate.
Points are worth about $.01/each. Use points if the cost in points is less than the cost in dollars.
