What does this even mean? Is that person trying to terminate someone who’s on medical leave? Pretty sure you can’t do that.
Manager 1, yes, but not coming from an actual person. It’s an AI-generated prompt that LinkedIn invites users who are “experts” in the topic to answer (in this case, answered by HR professionals I’m connected with, luckily calling it out as a bad question).
So the good news is this wasn’t created by an actual someone trying to fire an employee, but the bad news is LinkedIn’s own AI thought it was an appropriate question to generate and ask.

@Manager1 - Yes. That is exactly what the article is about. How to help the company avoid a possible lawsuit when the employee they want to lay off, happens to be on a medical leave during the layoff period.
This should be replied under my actual comment by the way lol. But yes, they can easily “let you go” if you exceeded the amount of medical leave. There is nothing to “navigate.” At my last company, they extended my coworker’s medical leave once. And then the second time she asked, they said they can’t extend any longer and it’s up to her what she wants to do. So she quit. They didn’t actually “terminate” her. They didn’t have to. All they did was deny her extension and she chose to leave. Any company can use this same strategy.
You can be let go on all types of leave if it's part of a mass layoff. Job protection only applies to begin let go specifically. So if it's not a targeted layoff, it doesn't protect you. A lot people were let go on mat/pat leave over the last few years.
The audacity just makes me l o l
