I’ve heard that proper is to give notice equal to pay period now. Depending on if your monthly that seems crazy to me.
I’ve been with 4 companies in my professional career. First one I left for competition (the grass is greener on the other side?) they let me work out my two weeks.
Second one was a bit unique the first company called me back said they’d made a mistake made me a massive offer I couldn’t refuse, but had reservations about going back and leaving the company I’d been recruited for and invested in. So I told them I’d been offered by my previous employer without me applying or going for it and was told to turn in my vehicle and iPad they were letting me go. I hadn’t even agreed or signed any offer letters I was just letting them know they’d talked to me.
Next one was during Covid so I don’t know if it counts much. But I went there after giving a solid two weeks. They were fine, but it was a Covid job and after it went back to normal things I was done and put my notice in when I found something better. They booked me extra saying the person that would be covering until I was replaced would be working overtime and needed some time off. They also wanted me to work off the clock on my last day doing an inventory check in of my items. I turned in the vehicle and items the next day and walked out of the General Managers office after handing him my keys. I wasn’t going to be abused like that.
So tldr. It’s the right thing to do but take care of yourself. The jobs posted for a replacement before they see you’re out of the parking lot.
You always give two week notice no matter what it’s the professional thing to do
Screw that, my coworker gave them his 2 weeks notinotice after 9 years with the company and they told him,,,,you can leave now we don't need you,,, and that was the manager who kicked him out for giving his 2 weeks notice, so when I quit after 5 years with them I just called them the very same day I was supposed to be in at 9 am and told them that I wasn't coming back. Once you know the game they play you have to play it the same way. Been Profecional start at the top so everyone else follows
Make sure it's in writing to several of the appropriate people from your personal email acct. so if you get walked immediately, you can still file unemployment for the 2 weeks.
Half the time when you put in your 2 weeks notice they tell you don’t bother coming back !! So I don’t know anymore!
2 weeks notice has always been a option never mandatory. Recommended to maintain a good relationship with company but nonetheless not a mandatory thing. Besides most of the time you give a 2 weeks notice, they try to find a way to get rid of you before the two weeks. Ultimately left to the individual to make the choice
In most situations if you quit at a time convenient for your company they will agree to let you go immediately. If you quit when they need you, you can absolutely be sued for damages.
Does giving 2 weeks notice get put into work contracts ? If so how do I check ?
The 2 week notice is only necessary if you're interested in going back to work with the company, if the company you are working for presently was fair and you enjoyed working with them, it is better to not burn bridges. Sometimes new surroundings aren't always what you expect or what they seem.
It’s true that most companies will take your two weeks notice and ask you to leave right there and then, but it is seen as unprofessional to just quit. Offering the two weeks notice gives them time to figure out what to do with the work that you were doing. It’s respectful. Doing it also increases your chances of being able to be hired again by that company in the future because you’re leaving on good terms.
Don’t listen to the talk saying “why give them the respect that they never gave you” or whatever. That’s called burning bridges. The world is small and getting smaller, especially as we get deeper into our careers. You may go for a job at a new company and one of the managers will be from a company you quit from poorly and THAT could affect you getting an interview, much less the job.
What you put out there professionally is what will come back to you.
Company loyalty is a thing of the past they don’t care about you. As soon get ready to retire they want to fire you. They will find a way to get rid of you to hire someone cheaper. So no if I gonna leave no 2week notice because I don’t plan on coming back
Naw no 2 week notice is necessary, think of them the same as they would think of you. They don't give you enough time to get your self in order before firing you, don't give them that opportunity
