If I saw a student idea good enough to steal, I’d hire them.
Ha, why is that?
Look up the YT series "Everything is a Remix." Really changed my perspective on ideas. Makes you less precious about your own and more open to the creative process.
CD's literally steal from everyone always and get away with it. That's the whole point. The students stole to make their work, too. This is called the creative process.
Watch the video. It's like an hour of your life. Then you can stop worrying about your work being stolen forever.

No shade to students whatsoever, but the vast majority of the work I see simply determines creative potential and wouldn’t be actually marketable. The ideas just aren’t there yet for the most part. If you don’t have your portfolio reviewed by industry professionals and get real feedback, you lose the opportunity to grow and have insight into what makes an idea work. The gain far outweighs the farfetched potential that an established CD would blatantly steal an idea.
Not to say this hasn’t ever happened before, but it’s exceedingly rare and also very risky in the age where it can easily be called out publicly. You usually just hire that person with the good idea instead.
Not enough of them get called out. Students need to learn how to fight back.
In my experience people who jealously guard ideas don’t tend to have very many
Welcome to the business my friend. This process is called “a pitch”. You share your best ideas with a potential client/employer for free. Then hope they don’t just take them and make them with someone else. We have little to no intellectual property protection in the process. But currently it’s how the game is played, and none of us have much of a choice - I’m sorry :(.
Has this happened to you or a friend of yours? If so what was the idea?
I had a CD who refused to even look at student work for this reason. Personally, I don’t think this happens often. How many briefs align in a way that creates an opportunity to steal?
An idea for a brand could be applied to other brands.

Alright OP, let’s see it.
