Just started a new job about 3 months ago after being laid off, and I only applied to remote and hybrid positions. I have young kids and being in office 5 days a week just doesn’t work for me. Ended up with a fully remote position!

@SAD1 For the 2 that you got to the final round of, did those happen to be the one that you cold applied to or the one you had connections at? Curious to see how much you felt like knowing somebody affected your chances at getting the offer but definitely hear you about LinkedIn and Fishbowl being potential echo chambers where everyone goes to complain
I would at least need hybrid. I just can't fathom commuting five days a week. I live in the middle of nowhere, so that's part of it, but also I'm a huge introvert and being around people exhausts me. Plus, there isn't one single part of my job that can't be done online.

@SBD1 I also feel like hybrid works super well for me. I feel like I can sometimes get so distracted being in the office especially when people keep pulling me out of the work I'm trying to focus on to ask me things
A full 5 days in office is absolutely a nonstarter for me. I have two young kids and need remote flexibility to be able to take care of them. I'm lucky enough to still be fully remote so it's not an issue now, but I would leave in a heartbeat if RTO was mandated. I'd rather take my chances freelancing than ever go back to the office.

That's great that you're still fully remote and that you have that flexibility. Also admire your courage to rather take your chances freelancing when I feel like finding work is hard at the moment
I value having a flexible work environment and prefer a hybrid schedule. In the past, working in the office five days a week felt draining, and I’ve found that a hybrid setup allows me to do my best work while maintaining balance. I’ve really enjoyed the flexibility at my current job, and I don’t see myself returning to a fully in-office schedule.
My job did almost require us to go back to the office but my team was doing a good job so they let us keep the hybrid role but if I did go back, I’d probably stick it out but will look for a new job.
There’s still an ongoing pandemic whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not so it’s remote or nothing. Unfortunately I can’t afford to become disabled by a covid infection.

That is very fair. I'm glad that there still are remote jobs available but it seems like those are starting to decrease more and more. I hope it doesn't become just a luxury that a few companies offer
It’s a priority for me. Definitely focused on remote, but will consider a hybrid role. RTO is something I’m trying to avoid if I can, after experiencing all the benefits of remote work.

Yea I feel you on this but it does seem like it's becoming harder to find. I do feel like it'll still be offered but nowhere near the levels people want
Parent of 2 here. Working from home is pretty important to me because my spouse is a physician who can’t stay home when the kids are sick.

Valid and I feel like that was the whole point of so many companies moving to a hybrid/remote model originally. Companies were touting the capabilities teams had at being able to do work remotely but know it feels like they're finding anything they can in order to back track to get people to come back into the office and I hate that that's happening
Interviewed at Amazon and really liked the job and the team, but five days a week return to office in New York was def a no go. It means you’re not only have to move to New York for the job, id have to live close enough where I can still help out with my kid in the mornings or after school.
But honestly, I had one offer over the pandemic that required a move, and that place shut down three months after I would’ve started . Two years ago was offered a job at Meta, which required a move to LA, and nine months later that entire team was wiped. I think that’s one of the allures of remote now that social contracts between employer and employees have been shattered - I just can’t fathom ever having to move for a job anymore when you could lose it in months, whether you’re a high performer or not.
