Historically we just haven’t done very much lateral hiring at all. We’ve started to do some during COVID, but still 95%+ of our hires come from Undergrad or MBA. I think we should do a lot more, but I don’t respond to asks for referrals on here because I know HR isn’t going to take them seriously. It’s just not our model (good or bad).
However, I can attest Bain culture is great! Love it here
Thanks

Said in jest! :)
Maybe McK and BCG have a better referral incentive $$$ program…? 😂
Personally, I am not confortable referring people i dont actually know. I need to be able to vouch for them. But that’s just me.

McKinsey didn’t have an incentive program when I was there. Being part of the Firm was rewarding enough

Mckinsey and BCG do a lot more experienced lateral hiring. Primarily a function of size, but may be a tiny bit cultural as well.
Also in terms of pure size Bain is maybe 1/3, so all else being equal they are less likely to see the posts

Bain1 (or should I say the only Bain) - what level have you seen experienced hires on the rare occasion come in at - principal, manager or both?
B3, B4 are you all still hiring in PEG in US?
Bains referral model basically requires you to know something about the person. A referral at Bain isn’t like a “check the box”. Just a different model. Also, even if Bainies are more reserved on referrals I’m not sure how that is “entitled”?
Bainees must be banned 🤣
I am looking to talk to someone from McK and BCG! Please let me know if you would be happy to talk. I am based in Toronto
Agree with B3 above, I think for a Bainie giving a referral is a bigger deal. Don’t see how that makes us entitled. There is a Bainie on here who posts something along the lines of “happy to chat, not always happy to refer”. I think that would sum up our attitude perfectly.
We are also smaller (and seem to be less represented on FB on top of that), so you are probably less likely to get us responding to posts.
In EMEA we are actually heavily ramping up experienced hires and have been for the past 2 years
Do you have any advice for internships? I’ve always been interested in MBB but can’t seem to hear back :/ I was at Deloitte as a Quant Research Intern but then went into the tech industry as a Swe but want to come back as a consultant.
Bain is the smallest, and they filter through all the people who apply to all three of MBB.
Comparatively, there are fewer people on this app and recruiting gets super selective so external hiring is tough too.
I'm a PhD student (public health & eng) looking to pursue consulting at MBB (Toronto or Montreal ideally). I would love to chat with folks in the space - trying to learn as much as I can. Currently enrolled in Bridge to BCG, waiting on Bain Advantage.
