I've been married for 6 years, but I strongly suggest doing activities/experiences, with my favorite being the Funny Bus.
-You likely go through parts of the city you haven't before.
-You get to BYOB.
-There's a comedian that may make fun of you.
-You can grab dinner after and have something to talk about.
-Most important...you'll definitely see some real personality come out of your date. 🚩if the person can't take a joke or find joy in a literal joyride.
-it's only like 2 hours and you don't have to entertain each other. Plenty of day/night left if you plan it well.
-its a different crowd every time and the comedians rotate.
Just make sure the weather is decent. A wet/cold/dark bus ride sucked as a kid, it's worse as an adult.
Yeah, SA1 has a point. Funny Bus is pretty cheesy and horribly unimpressive. I've never had anyone say it wasn't a good time though.
Maybe SA1 is still in the dating phase of trying to seem cool or impress their dates, but the veteran in me knows that the key metric to a second date is whether or not both parties have a good time on the first one.
Stick with the traditional "Dinner Interview®" all you want, but the success rate there is low and idk anyone that actually likes interviews. You're counting on the restaurant having a good vibe that night, the food being good, the server not screwing it up and having to talk about yourselves for an hour. Most people hate talking about themselves and hate people that enjoy it...meanwhile cheap improv is a unanimous W.
Note: Grabbing a coffee/drink to initially meet is date zero. I'm talking about a true first date that it'd be awkward to end prematurely.
...and there are plenty of great activity dates aside from the Funny Bus.
Maybe I’m being too simplistic here but what about finding out what you both have in common and planning a first date around that. For example, you both love animals and the zoo… plan a date to the zoo.
You both are into art. Find an art museum.
Finding that common ground so you both will enjoy your time is essential.
Food afterwards is good too because who doesn’t like to eat?? lol.
I haven’t been on a date in a while but when I did, it was always grabbing food somewhere or even arcade games (something like pins mechanical vibe), or even a walk in the park on a nice day.
But that’s what I’m into. Anyways, hope this helps!
Take into account that people these days won’t enjoy anything of a lower “quality” than the fanciest place they’ve seen on Instagram.
Good luck!
That's the thing though, don't try to impress, you'll never win and it's not sustainable if you do.
Show people a good time, and if the good time is only judged by $$ spent, then move on.
