Can anyone explain why the Aston southend is so expensive ? 2.9k for a 1 bedroom?

Because people will pay for it. I suggest going on Facebook marketplace or find some groups, and look up people trying to exit their lease (lease takeover). I live in a 1br in SouthEnd I signed for 3 months (takeover at $1300 a month, then it shot up to 1550 when I renewed, but if I signed up directly through the office it'd have been about $2000 a month)

like

yep this is the way

ashton/hawk are also the only two high rise type buildings in southend, and are both located in prime areas - so you’re paying a premium for that.

A few reasons I can think of:

It looks like it is right on the rail trail and not a block or two off like many complexes. It is also about a block from the light rail station and many of the nicer bars and restaurants in the area. It is closer to these places than many other complexes so they will charge more for the convenient location.
If you’re looking at renting a higher floor unit and it is facing towards the city, they will charge more for that since you’ll get a great view.
Also looking at that place’s website they have some amenities such as 24/7 conceriege and a private driver. The complex will pay a lot to have employees on staff able to provide those services around the clock. Those are things you think of more with a hotel than an apartment building.
Finally, I noticed all the one bedrooms are quite large. The more square footage the more it will cost. 800 sq ft is the smallest one bedroom and it is on the larger end for a one bedroom at many complexes while the 1000 sq ft is more common for a 2 bedroom not a 1 bedroom like Ashton has.
All of these things I mentioned will contribute to why this complex is more expensive than many complexes even in south end. They also do dynamic prices at all the places so as long as demand is there and people are signing leases there, the price won’t go down too much.

Ugh its getting so ridiculous. The rent prices have increased significantly over the past couple years. And raises are basically nonexistent at most places of employment.

Because people are willing to pay it. They are really nice places from what I have seen but they are still really expensive.

My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. 1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. Suggestions?

- about $2k on food and etc.
My saving goals is around $3k so been trying to adjust my monthly spending.

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢
