Hi all,
I’m looking to relocate to Seattle. Does anyone know if any of the Big 4 are still recruiting campus hires to start in Summer/Fall 2023? I’m open to either Audit or Tax, but I have internship experience in Tax.
I applied and received an offer at a Big 4 in San Francisco (campus hire), but I’ve decided Seattle is the better fit for me as it will be closer to my hometown and family in Vancouver.
Thanks!

I realize I am dating myself but when I left my $6 an hour college job for my first career job paying $38K, I had no idea how I could spend that much money. 😂

That’s such a great leap that I don’t even blame you haha
First salary over $500K and I finally felt like I could breath a bit!

Showing off?
When my salary exceeded 200k it felt like an accomplishment. I have arrived. It allowed me to fully max out roth 401k and roth catch up contributions. My I have now eclipsed my 401k lifetime target that I set in my 40s

That’s great to hear of a success story like that, glad it’s all working out for you

Early in my career the raises were smaller so the first real jump was when I relocated for a job and a $15k bump but it was to a higher COL and ended up leveling off for lifestyle. The next bump was when I did contract consulting (2 separate gigs) before moving back to a lower COL area. The last was my current role which was the largest jump of my career of over 30%. The dollar point varies tremendously on the timing as inflation has been climbing.
When I hit $100k it didn't feel as significant because it didn't really change the month to month situation. My last bump to $155k actually moved the needly significantly month to month.

A $15k increase when you’re earning under $100k must be a great feeling
For me, it was my jump industry less than a year ago, kinda.
Started in public in '21, made enough to live comfortably with a roommate at $70k in the Bay Area. That roommate left and I failed to get another one because I was just too busy, and I worked a ton so didn't have time to cook, and so doordashed everything. Got myself in 20k of credit card debt just for the privilege to work 80 hours a week barely leaving my apartment.
Crossed 100k in 24, and was barely making a dent in my debt even after refinancing to a lower interest rate and transferring to a 0 interest rate. It was just too expensive. I had 50k in my 401k from amounts that I couls not opt to receive in cash instead, which I know will benefit my future, but I was stuck in a 600 sq ft apt and could never go see my family with an hour long commute.
Finally jumped to industry for 125k base plus bonus and profit sharing up to 150k total comp. Between the base increase and the bonus which I can receive in cash, I finally have been able to pay off my debt just this month 4 years later. I can generally save a little each month finally and in addition to having 70k in 401k, I have roguhly 10k in cash savings.
While this seems like it should feel like a milestone, because I'm finally debt free (even though I started my career debt free) and can generally breathe a little on monthly expenses, it feels like I'm on a razors edge. My dad at 5 years younger than me on a 50% less total comp was able to buy a 2000 sq ft+ 3 story house in the late 90s. I finally am able to only just have the most meager amount of savings. I have no hope of owning anything substantial anytime in the near future without a pretty massive pay increase. Like at least 50k more per year, liquid, that I can actually use to put towards a monthly mortgage, maybe actually be able to have children.
Right now it's just me and my wife, and we're dual income and just barely starting to save, maybe take a trip or 2 during the year to see our aging parents in our early 30s. So yeah, 150k. Might be a milestone, but it doesn't feel significant.

Great story, thanks for sharing

it was probably about 13 or so years ago, I got a increase in pay of over $12.6k when I did a career pivot from retail distribution to accounting.

$1k a month extra pre-tax certainly isn’t something to be scoffed at, great to hear your story my friend
First significant milestone was crossing $100k, next was hitting SS max-like the little bump in take home pay the last couple months of the year!
Chief
$100k is certainly a great milestone. What were you earning before you reached that?

What?
First time over 6 figures was a big milestone for me but now I've become greedy and want to get over $200k... 😊

Always aiming higher, love to see it
Going from $7.50 an hour to $60k a year was life changing…
