I've been laid off twice, and each time it led to a step function improvement in my career. Take the time you need to mentally reset, and then build and execute your strategy to make your comeback. You can do it!
Thanks for sharing.
Realize it’s crappy but you will get through this. Don’t let this moment define you. It’s going to be a good story over a drink one day and you will be good. 💯
I’m sorry this happened to you. Remember it’s something that happened to you and doesn’t reflect on you.
For me, in a somewhat similar situation, I was sad, frustrated, and angry but ultimately I got to the point where I felt career-wise I had nothing left to lose. This mindset was super liberating because I no longer cared if I failed - took a big risk with my next job and it was totally worth it.
Best of luck to you!
I experienced this at the experienced associate level. It was actually a blessing. I buckled down, updated my resume and reached out to my network. A month later I was making 20% more.
...sounds familiar ..do I know you? Haha
what's your current level? For M, and below it's an opportunity. for SM and above, it's going to be career crisis.
Agree with SM2. Skills are highly transferable and we usually will have a pretty good network of peers, clients and places who can give us a job
Sorry to hear. Did the firm offer some sort of package to help?
It wasn't very good ... But the support both from inside the firm and outside have been truly overwhelming. Between hearing the news on Thursday and feeling crushed, to waking up to so much support I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry to hear OP, sucks to hear but I’m having gone through this myself I think it you will look back on this time of reinvention as a positive event
Best thing that ever happened to me. Take a quick, socially-distanced vacation. Get your unemployment application in. Take a couple weeks to do things around the house (or take care of whatever else you’ve been putting off), watch Netflix, etc. Then hit the ground running with applications. I agree with others’ comments as well.
