Which neighborhood should I move to in Chicago with a 6 month? Safety is top priority

Lakeshore East — that’s it. I say this as an East Asian with a lower tolerance for violent crime.

EY - i’ve lived everywhere in chicago for a decade and witnessed one single crime.

the secret? be aware and take ubers past midnight.

Like others said, what kind of vibe and what kind of people do you wanna be around?

like

I’ve done the same, head on swivel, etc but honestly crime is happening in the middle of the day in areas you would not expect. The old rules only get you so far.

Safety is a bland requirement. Everything between river north and Roscoe’s village is generally very safe, pockets of sketchy / bland areas. It’s moreso what type of vibe and budget you are looking for. There’s plenty of other safe places as well like west loop, wicker park, Bucktown, the burbs etc.

Just avoid oblock

funny

Even the ‘safe’ spots are situational, but yes everything is generally safe excluding south and west side. Just don’t be acting all scary out here and you’ll be fine

If you meant “with a 6 month old” then I’d focus on Lincoln Park because there’s tons of parks, it’s safe and picturesque for walks, lots of other families, the lake/beach is close by, and there’s lots of activities for kids. Lakeview if you avoid Wrigley (too many bars) and Roscoe Village are also great. Pretty much anywhere North of downtown is fine from safety standpoint.

Thank you so much

If safety is a concern. Move to DePage county where there are Republican politicians that prosecute crimes to the fullest. Though crimes still do happen of course, the random acts of violence don’t happen there like they do in Chicago.

What do you mean “with a 6 month?” I understand safety is a top priority, but do you also want to experience culture, music, nightlife, food? Are you interested in community, do you have children, are you looking for social activities?

“Safety is top priority” lol it’s not a war zone. As long as you don’t live in south side

SC1, you should spend some time in the great neighborhoods on south and west side, and maybe you wouldn't have such a myopic view.

OP, I'd look at neighborhoods that have the cultural, entertainment, and dining options most important to you. Access to the El or good bus routes makes things a bit easier too, especially if you have to be at office much.

Agree be smart and aware of what’s around you and don’t walk far late at night and everything north of south loop either side of the river (not too far west like the united center) is safe. To be fair there was a time about 7ish years ago you could walk around pretty late and not worry but now Ubers are worth the $10-20 to not worry about it

There are more crimes being committed in Lakeview than Bridgeport. Stop saying the “south side” is all dangerous.

If safety is top priority and you are willing to commute, may be try suburbs?

Author some suburban commutes are faster than commutes within the city. Brookfield to downtown is 20 mins

How many married professionals with young families are just sticking it out “for the kids”? Marriage is very dead and has been for a while. Young kids 4 and 1. My wife and I don’t fight, but share 0 interests outside of the kids and can’t stand to be around each other. I’m so ready to leave… I just can’t bear the thought of doing it to my children even though another part of me feels like wife and I would both be better parents if our lives were separate.
