Cheats is overrated. Wasn’t a fan. The best one I’ve had in charlotte is from Chuck’s cheesesteak. It’s a food truck off brookshire. I highly recommend it.
Cheat's is definitely the leader for me. I loved Capriotti's when I lived in DC, but it's been dry the couple of times I've had it here. Every other place I've tried one (including Duckworths) has been a cheese steak by definition, but not in spirit at all.
Cheats is the only one giving you the flavor, but also the experience. It's meant to be a messy, gooey, flavorful sandwich on a fresh hoagie....every other place has just been meat and provolone cheese on a basic hoagie I could've gotten at the grocery store. Add in the floats, fries or pretzel bites and Cheat's wins overwhelmingly. If you can somehow save room for a slice of cake from Villani's next door, you're in flavor (and caloric) heaven.
I haven't had Chucks, but a food truck seems more likely to do it the right way than any other restaurant.
Not from Philly, but I really like Duckworth’s. $20ish full sized makes for 2 meals which is a bonus. Feel free to tell me I am wrong, lol.
