Hi guys, Now VMware is offering me a 35% percent hike of what I am earning at DellEmc. I just completed one year at DellEmc. Total 2.7YOE But I don't like to go out of Dell, due to some personal commitments I am planning to switch.
Is it a good time to switch?
Can I talk with my manager ?
Are they able to hike the salary of what VMware is offering? Please suggest me.

RSM, it is all determined by the National office. We’ve let go several good people that our local partners were unable to salvage. Either they’re too high up the pay band, or they don’t have CPA, etc. many factors affecting their determination outside of performance. It’s shit over here.
Sadly not super transparent … but what we were told is:
- Group-level decides # of reduction and what levels
- Office-level assess how many low performers or others who can be riffed
- Office level reports suggested LPs/RIFs but it ultimately is finalized at Group level.
So during these RIFs, often the P/MDs are unsure who is and who is not in the list.
It’s top down and varies by circumstance, but in my experience it’s done at a practice level. If everyone in your practice has solid utilization and they’re staffed, then unless you’re a consistent under-performer, you’re fine.
There’s a target revenue at the practice and function level, and the cuts can be blanket, as in 10% reduction but more typically it was in part based on market conditions so directors, senior managers, and entry levels take the brunt. Utilization is the focus though and generally the individuals getting laid off, have metrics that jump of the page.
I’ve typically seen the senior partner from your practice making the call (I assume they have a quota of some sort)
As long as your revenue numbers are top quartile you’re probably fine
