Why do law firms care about law review for 2L recruiting? I saw that a disproportionate amount of people on the Columbia law review failed the bar this year, including board members. Seems like whatever gets people on law review doesn’t correlate with competence and it doesn’t seem to teach any skills relevant to junior associate work.

LOL we all know why CLS law review has high fail bar rates...has to do with their admission criteria which does not even come close to reflecting who is a good student performance wise at the school.

Practicing lawyers couldn’t care less about who was on law review. It helps on the margins for recruiting, but is obviously becoming less relevant as hiring timelines move earlier and earlier.

I don't think they care, especially now, since 2L SA offers are handed out well before journal write on

Law firms value law review because it signals strong writing, analytical ability, and a competitive, detail-oriented mindset, qualities they believe are essential for legal practice. However, you’re right that it doesn’t always correlate with practical competence or bar passage rates. The skills honed in law review often focus more on academic rigor than the hands-on work required for junior associate roles.

Hi,
I had call with the HR for he position based out of Mumbai everything in interview and they are ready to share the offer. however, I quoted for 10 lakhs and they said for fixed pay of 8.75.
Although, i checked on Google as well average pay they are giving is 9.7 lakh
So should I accept the offer as per their negotiation or shall positively tell them why 10 lakh is justified?

I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. Long story short, I regret choosing the office that I chose. I’d like to transfer to another office - is that a difficult ask? I’m licensed in the state I’d like to transfer to. I don’t know how to make this request.

Has a partner ever come back and asked you why you spent so much time on certain things? Im a first year and this hasn’t happened to me at my firm and they tell us not to cut our own time, but my first firm (short stint, small firm) did this to me allll the time and made me feel guilty — so just curious if this has happened to anyone in big law.

Hi, weird question for this forum, so I apologize. I’m trying to be creative here and use the tv stand that I have. The issue is that it has an open back so you can see all my tv wires. I can’t hide the wires because my building won’t let me open the wall. My idea was to slip a tile sheet that is wall behind the tv stand as a back, but I need the tile cut to the specific heigh and width of the tv stand. Does anyone know where I can take this tile sheet to get cut to the specific measurements?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!
