my incredibly kind, Serbian super who will quietly bring my packages upstairs and leave them outside my door (this is not even close to a full-service building), has a hobby of rescuing discarded plants so now there’s basically a garden next to the mailboxes) and refuses to let me tip him because he says “I’m old, i don’t need any more money, I just like helping people”

Jokes aside: NYC probably has the best dating scene in the western world in terms of level of education, hotness and internationality. You can basically travel the world from the confines of your bedroom
International might seem intersting an exotic, but for compatibility, having similar backgrounds helps. The more different you are, the more there is to clash on. Things that you take for granted and maybe don't discuss enough during dating turn out to be a big deal.
It weeds out the weak
Funny but true. NYC is the A-league

Sometimes people are like, 'Why'd you move back to New York?' And I was like, 'I don't know, I just really love the ambience and there's such a charm to the city, you know?'
You sure those aren’t racoons? Hahaha

People here are more self aware. We can talk about the pitfalls and perks of this city.
As a Black guy it’s also the major city with the least racist/microaggressive population I’ve been to (this is not saying much, but Europeans are something else in this regard and in comparison NYers are godsent). Classism is still a big issue and I wish people would take me seriously socially *before* hearing I work at McKinsey.
Europe is egregious - leave aside micro aggressions, I never thought I would experience so much overt racism there.
Not saying the US can’t do better (it can be a LOT better) but it’s much better than it is across the pond.
Probably the only place where you never get bored. No matter how many years you live here, there’s always something to do to, every day is different, fun activities.

EB white said this....I'm the 3rd, which one are you?
There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter — the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something.
...Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness; natives give it solidity and continuity; but the settlers give it passion.

I like that the perceived crime scares away people who watch too much cable
Not even in nyc but I know for a fact the crime stats are so damn inflated bc of just how many people live there.
Because people like to feel like they’re cooler than the rest of their friends back home
Because honestly, they are.

Because it is THE greatest city in the world.

And if you can make it here you can make it ANYWHERE!
I was not born in NYC and I fell in love with the city - moved away after 3 years and returned after 18 years. I can say I feel home!!!
It IS the greatest city in the world!

Here’s another point, as a heterosexual male, there are something like 10 women for every straight man in the city. And the city draws these Athena archetypes, powerful women of commerce and society. Also the Artemis archetypes, Diana the huntress who needs no man but thrives independently. There are plenty of Aphrodite’s running around too, the sensual seductress who catches your eye from blocks away. And because of the competition and the environment they tend to dress more fashionable (whether it is financial preppy or hipster chill) than in any other city in the US.
Not trying to make an awkward point here but it has to be mentioned if we’re talking about why we love ❤️ NYC. Big big fan, so much I married one of these Athenas.
I want what you have
The vibes are always 👌🏻. The energy, the people, and the best of the best of everything
I was born and raised here, I’ve lived abroad for a few years and all I could think about was coming back.
Nyc is so small and truly feels like a community. I run into friends, old teachers, family, etc. all of the time. This city is 100% what you make it, it’s tough but it builds strong people.
I have never felt more alive and at ease then when I am here.
Of course, I have to acknowledge my bias which is being born and raised here so there is an underlying understanding of how things work and managed expectations about living here.
“It’s tough but it builds strong people.” I love this.
NY is great when you are young or insanely wealthy. Preferably both.
How lovely this would be!
The people!
Best city in the world, no debate.
