Why is it so hard for many employers to list a salary range or pay scale in their job listings? I have a family of 5 with 3 special needs girls (1 is fully disabled) and accepting a low-income job that takes too much time is a major risk to supporting my family.

Although I like seeing the salary range in postings, I’ve found it’s actually meaningless. It’s much more important for it to be discussed on the first recruiter call and also a general estimate of where you’d be targeted on the band

I tend to agree, some of the posted ranges are just to check a transparency box, or to draw in top talent, but are wildly misleading

I tried to negotiate a higher salary with a recruiter this week and was told I’m not eligible for the top of the range because I don’t live in California or New York. My 24 years of experience for the role didn’t matter.

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I renegotiated my start date and it’s different from the date I signed on the offer letter. Do I need to request a revised offer letter or is the email thread with the recruiter sufficient. By the way, my background check is already in progress.

Clawback clause in current contract: been in role for over 2 yrs, it was an internal move that required relocation. Relocation was approved shortly after (over 2 yrs ago) but covid meant the actual move and start of my contract with new subsidiary was delayed, I was paid by the previous subsidiary meanwhile. I got small relocation package. Would internal move be subject to a buy-out/clawback clause if I leave now and if yes, is it time in role or time under new contract? Any experience? Thanks!

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
