Taking and defending depos, and related skills, will. Other firms won’t know how much you worked, so that won’t be relevant, but if you need to work a lot to get those experiences, then do it .
Totally agree A2, but not really my call unfortunately.
Getting more substantive experience as a litigator will absolutely increase your exit options, especially if you want to go to a smaller firm (or move to a smaller market) where associates are given more responsibility early on. Just be careful that you don't burn out, and/or that your being overstaffed doesn't impact your work product.
I think both of those things are happening, but it’s not really under my control so I’m just trying to find a bright side.
Lateral interviews focus on the types of tasks that you did. They want to see substantive experience and leadership on your matters. The number of hours matters less, but as others said the way to get the best substantive experience is to take ownership, so good work, and be available. These traits take a lot of hours usually.
