I never dealt with this personally, but I heard it happens quite often and was told to be prepared the day I put in my 2 weeks can be my last day.
Yep
Today is your last day if you are asked to leave, you will not be paid
I had a different experience. I work in industry and gave 2 week notice. I got asked to leave and got paid for 2 weeks

Ask HR. Technically they don’t need to pay you given your employment ended that day. But there have been many cases where people were still paid the 14 days.
I don’t think you have grounds for wrongful termination whether you’re pregnant or not because you did put in your notice. Had you asked for a short term leave or few days off because of your pregnancy and they terminated you, sure. But you did tell them you’re quitting and they just accelerated the date.
The PWC office I worked in would terminate immediately if you were going to another Big4 and paid two weeks out.
if your notice was a notice of resignation, then this seems pretty normal. its not uncommon for public accounting firms to let you go on the spot upon a notice of resignation, and typically they'll pay you out for the 2 weeks.
They may pay you, they may not pay you. They can do what they want
If your contract of employment requires the parties to give one another 2 weeks notice then if one party decides upon giving that notice they don’t want the other party around then they are contractually obliged to pay the 2 weeks notice period.
Sounds like you can sit on the beach for 2 weeks or have “gardening leave” as we called it with the 2 weeks pay.
When I left EY, gave notice computer was shut off that day and I did not get paid for the days that I would have worked. Kind of silly that they boot you out that day as I did not have an opportunity to transfer my work smoothly, oh well.
I believe it depends on the Company. I recently turned in my notice and the day after they told me I could leave but advised they would pay me through my notice.
As a former partner, the reason for the immediate release is 1). to prevent intentional manipulation of wps, clients, ect (although that would have probably already happened prior to the notice), but the main reason is 2). the faster that person is out of there the less likely other employees will start looking. The longer the person who is leaving is there the more likely it will affect the other employees and they will start looking.
