I would love to work for myself one day but I am a single mom so I am playing it safe. I am currently trying to pay off my mortgage and save some for my son college before I jump.
I am currently 31, I should be done with my mortgage by the age of 40. So my plan is to open my own firm then but in about 5 years, start taking contract work.

Hahaha true PWC, I am also a single mom, hoping that by then, my won will be more independent which can give me freedom to do more.
As of right now, EY is acting like they don’t even care soooo
I always say it doesn’t hurt to start a side hustle. In fact I encourage it tbh. Even right now as I work, I’m just waiting for my side hustles bring me the same or more income that I am currently earning with PwC. Working for these white people for the rest of our lives shouldn’t be the goal. Instead we should use the opportunity to learn and network so we can start our own.

If you're thought enough to throw the question around, you already know the answer. Set yourself up with the experience and contacts in working for the firm, but learn what it takes, then take the plunge and give it a shot.

Thanks for the background, I'll have to check it out. Thanks also for point the question, it's something that I'm sure a lot of us have kicked around.

Depends on your drive. I started with my own then realized it was more work than I wanted and had the all around skillset for at the time. I went to work for a firm with the intent to gain additional experience and then give it another go and never left. Working for yourself is very rewarding but it’s not a cakewalk and has its own set of challenges. It really depends on you.
