Working at a big firm now making 80k, but with a ton of unpaid overtime. Would you take a 10-15% pay cut to work at another firm with better work life balance?

It really depends on your priorities and stage in life.
If you are young and single, then you are climbing the ladder and you are not denying your immediate spouse/ kids your time, so working 10/15% is ok ( it’s an extra 60 to 90 mins a day), as long as you are growing .

If you are experienced middle aged and have a family and this means you miss the kids parents meeting or can’t get home for dinner with the family where you get to connect and ask them how the days been, then it’s seriously worth considering whether this firm is right for you at this stage in life.

Remember the phrase ‘live to work’ or ‘work to live’
You don’t get the time back but if you are young enough ( ie. Under 40 years old) then time is on your side , after this then you really need to calculate your priorities.

How much overtime? How often?

That’s a lot. I think you can do better. Is it one of those nice design firms that do every “nice” project?

You should never take a pay cut this early in your career, your skillsets and abilities are worth that salary regardless to your ability to work overtime. Set some boundaries with your firm, and work the designated agreed upon office hours.

So I finished my 3rd interview with a company and the TA specialist said they loved me but can’t meet me at my bottom line salary, however, I said I can negotiate and she said she’s going to speak with the decision makers and see if they’re okay with that. What does this mean? This is for a marketing specialist role. I’m asking for $70K bottom line

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

Hi all, I’m currently a solution architect with 1yoe and two bachelors degrees. I also hold two cloud certifications and make 60k a year. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m an architectural designer (from Europe) with 1.5 yrs experience. I’m working for a practice in San Francisco, full-time from the office, getting 25 an hour. It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈
