working with estate planning attorney and using MetLife legal package that comes up with plan for trust. For registration of revocable trust and other actions lawyer is quoting 525 dollars on top of the plan coverage. Fees are for title for my home, registration with state, notary fees and some documents shipping. Are these fees normal on top of what pls covers?. I am in MD so I know state fee is close to 150 but not sure of other fees. Lawyer is not talking much in initial consults (cont)

Yeah I’d also caution people against what’s included in MetLife plans - the reimbursement rates for attorneys participating in those plans are really low. So go in with that knowledge that you’re getting someone who generally cannot win in the market.

My wife is a relatively high end estate planner (boutique firm that focuses on federally taxable clients and some high state tax clients). She didn’t recognize a single person when someone asked her to suggest someone from our areas list.

did estate documents as part of legal plan with MetLife and paid nothing. there was an additional charge for the title of the home to be moved to the trust but I did that on my own. it's not hard.

That doesn't strike me as unreasonable. It's the kind of thing where it's routine for lawyers, and not a massive amount of work, but you should still have a lawyer handle it. You don't want to have anything challenged at some future point, so you're paying for peace of mind.

Do not cheap out on using an estate planning attorney. T&E is one area of the law that punishes bad lawyering.

Sounds high to me. I had all will/trust/estate docs done with an attorney through MetLife and paid $10 for the title change. Everything else was included. If your stuff isn’t complicated, mine wasn’t, you may want to get quotes from multiple lawyers on the list before going with someone.

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

I currently do securities ops/accounting but want to move into a more client facing role. One of our marketing/client service associates got a promotion, so I’m guessing she’ll be doing higher level work, which may leave a gap for some of the work she used to do. How would I go about asking if I can work on that team in some capacity but still do my current role? I’ve only been there 1 yr and I know my current manager also has some higher level items in securities ops he wants me to do as well.

For any real estate investors

22 years old and currently focused on using my left over income to invest and pay off my debt. I am set to pay off my college loans by next year and, when I do, I want to look into investing into real estate. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get into/learn more about real estate investing? Or how I can have enough knowledge on the topic to be able to invest wisely when the time comes?

Any books? youtubers? etc. How did you all learn about it?

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!
