If you were me and your goal was to maximize your net worth by retirement, would you put a few thousand dollars extra into paying down the house faster or invest that extra money in the market? I was once at a dinner with a second year analyst, consultant, and partner, and the analyst said he planned on retiring by 30 and the partner and consultant laughed. Little did they know, the analyst owned his own home and rented all the rooms out so he payed no rent, never ate out, only grocery shopped, and very very rarely bought anything new. He saved most of his income, and was perfectly content with just his video games. That man was serious about not being stuck working forever.

I can do the math on SWR’s, but always happy to have the input of this forum, be it positive, constructive, or a really unique perspective. I’ve been lurking on a FIRE journey for a while, and here is where I am:
