Would it ever be worthwhile to undertake a MBA at 46 when already a partner?

There are far less expensive ways to find 27 year olds to date

likefunny

Cheaper perhaps … but that mba partying life

No way. Invest any excess time in your health/fitness, family, board work, volunteer

like

No. For sure not. You probably already know the content and it’s freely available anyway. As others have pointed out you won’t make more money with an MBA this point. Now, if the idea is to take a two year sabbatical to party… 🤔 🤪

like

Obviously it’s not going to get your more money, so what personal objectives are you trying to achieve through this?

like

This... So it for personal growth objective not career nor money wise

Maybe consider an exec program?

You’d be a social/demographic outlier in a typical MBA program.

I looked into it the year I made MD - I was 40, I had insecurities of being from a mid tier state school and no MBA. I decided not to.
MIT emba was the only one that had a median age in the 40s (or maybe late 30s don't recall), after I spoke with a few other MDs at our firm they said unless there was a personal drive to learn or get a brand there was no material advantage and besides the workload with a family, practice responsibilities and a full book of business to grow & maintain it just didn't make sense.

Another annoying aspect was that as a partner you're the "target" of networking and there wasn't a ton of people you could network with who were more senior. Also when people say the alum network opens doors up, it's sorta true but then so can many other things like your firms brand & the fact you're a partner, board positions, fund raisers etc - you don't need an MBA.

I believe that MIT Sloan Fellows is a 1-year full-time, in contrast to Exec MBAs which are probably 3 days in person every 2 weeks for 2 years

I’m considering posting on Fishbowl something that will initiate another mental masturbation thread like this one. What question should I post?

likefunny

Would probably do a top exec mba, otherwise classmates will be so much younger

like

I cannot see any scenario where that would make sense. Learn AI or something truly relevant but not an MBA

like

No

like

Yes, Exec MBA at a top 10 program would get you the higher level colleagues connections and advanced concept discussions if you feel like you might need to round out your exposure to certain areas of business if you have heavily specialized as a partner. Also provides connections with academia at another level if you have an interest in doing joint research or teaching as an adjunct, or even going deep as Phd eventually. All depends on what your 2nd act goals are....

like

for fun, yes. For earnings, no.

If bucket list, yes. If you want to create a startup, yes!

If you want the degree for you, consider a state school part time program. The brand will be fine (not looking to change jobs) and you will have flexibility with workload.

What does it offer that you don’t otherwise have?

Yes. Cuz you will share a ton with the other students. Find excellent mentees, fund incredible start ups and hit a VC jackpot. Average folks look at average outcomes. Great ones build greatness out of the most unexpected assets.

This person isn’t 25, they are a partner at a consulting firm. Who is going to mentor?? There’s cheaper ways to find a start-up cofounder if that’s the goal.

Check these Exec MBAs instead: MIT Sloan, Kellogg, Booth, Wharton. These are the top EMBAs in the country (world?) and you’ll find peers of similar age and career level from other industries.

Hi all,
I am tech guy with almost 3yr exp, but I want to switch to a Management role. Going for an MBA is not possible for me. I was wondering about the possibility to switch to a management role within the next 2 years without an MBA. Company/Brand is not a bar for me.
Can somebody please suggest how to do this?

I would appreciate your perspective.
I am currently working on my MBA in a professional evening and weekend program at a highly accredited university. I am thinking about transferring to a much smaller private online program, specifically because they offer a concentration in organizational health, which directly builds on my doctoral research. Does great depth and specialization outweigh the value of a highly respected generalist degree?

Hi fishes,
I am currently working as a Data Science Analyst in Amex and would like to make a switch to Fraud detection/Credit risk modelling in future.(not in a hurry but would like to start preparing for the same)
How should I go about preparing for it? Is MBA the only course?
My current tech stack is Python, Pyspark, Hive, SQL, ML, DL(specifically NLP based). I have already done MS in CS from IIT Kgp.
I am confused mainly cause the tech stack requirement is similar to my role in the company.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.
