Cognizant Recently cognizant have changed their internet wfh allowance policy.we use to get 1800 per month as internet allowance without submitting any bills or transaction details. Now they changed the policy as we need to apply for icici/axis/hdfc credit card from there we need to make the transaction and reimburse the same. I am ok with everything but why i need to apply for credit card? How a company can force me to have a credit card? It will directly/indirectly alter the credit score right? Cogniza

At 8 YOE, that base is pretty decent for Boston too (although you’ll be paying state tax in MA which will dent a couple of hundred each paycheck) What is your skillset ?
Pro
What type of company/industry is this ?
Do you want to relocate, specifically to Boston? If f*ck yes, then go for it. If you're indifferent, I'd wait it out. If it isn't f*ck yes, it's a no.
Indifferent, I like the city but moving is a pain. Ideally, I'd get the same offer in Texas or be able to work remote, but that isn't an option for this company
A ~20% raise? With the potential to make up to 25% bonus? I would do it, although I have a preference for Boston over Texas.
If you do it, though, think of the bonus. It is already the end of March. If they give out bonuses next winter, you don’t have much time
to prove your value. And you likely won’t get much of a bonus this year as a result.
Therefore, you should expect a 10% signing bonus (at the minimum) to help cover for the fact you won’t get much of a bonus this year.
As for SM at ACN, do you have a realistic chance? What are your stories so far this year? What does your boss say? If you already have a good story, then it might be worth it to stick around. If you don’t have a good story, you don’t have much time to change it before decisions are made.
I have project and practice support for promotion but the list of folks who were not promoted last year is high so I might fall behind them. Realistically, I'd assume 50-60% chance of promotion
Financially, you might not be making anything extra or even might be losing out due to COL. It is a non-financial decision with primary questions being - do you want to move to Boston and move out from Accenture?
Indifferent to the city and leaving Accenture. I mostly don't want to travel extensively for work any longer. If post-pandemic travel goes down to 25%, I wouldn't mind staying. If it's going to go to 50%+, I'd rather move to industry.
Have you worked in the industry before? If not, I would try to negotiate and move to new company. It would be a good experience. One can always come back to consulting.
You are doing good in Accenture in TX. No major downside if you decide not to move.
Travel will not go above 25-50% for another year at least based on what I have been hearing in the market.
SM means you’ll get at least 15% raise. Your base would then be about 190k. That is what you should compare against. 10% vs 25% bonus is the real difference. 190 > 209 vs 200 > 250. Questions to consider:
1) What does your YoY raise look like at both places
2) Cost of living comparison: Rent at both places / mortgage at both places
3) taxes (income, property, sales)
If that gap of 41k starts to get smaller then additional questions to swing you one way or other:
1) WLB / travel
2) Is it worth switching to a colder location for that increase?
3) Will there be better opportunities out there after you become SM?
4) Is it worth sticking it out considering significant travel is still about a year or so away?
5) does the Boston opportunity have something unique worth leaving ACN regardless of $$$?
Thanks, yeah, I don't think it'll be worth it from just a money perspective if SM goes through. I've never lived in cold weather so am in the "how bad could it be" bucket - but it's probably worse than I'm imagining.
FWIW at my firm Texas is not medium col, it’s low. And Boston is not high col, it’s medium. Hcol is New York, San Fran, LA, etc
...and congrats! Either way sounds like a win and good option.
I would do it, the salary difference is significant personally I avoid Texas like a plague, and would welcome the chance of a liberal city like Boston.
Texas has 5 liberal cities with higher populations than Boston, but alright.
