WWYD? My partner wanted a pet but I did not. Partner got a cat anyways and now I feel resentful about partner’s lack of respect for my feelings in this. The cat wakes me up throughout the night bc of its meowing, “hunting moods”, and hunger, etc. that ONLY happens at night. Otherwise, I would never even know the cat is there. What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

I recommended a candidate for hire to a manager that reports directly to me. This person is a perfect match, but wanted the manager to obviously recommend. It has to be a fit. The manager just told me my recommendation is not her top pick. I feel frustrated because as much as we talk about the position, I wonder if we are mot aligned on criteria. What do I do?
