I was faced with a similar situation and chose not to move. Yes, I would've made more money but would have left a pretty good work environment with people I mostly enjoy working with. Not worth the risk to me.
Are you in California though? It is impossible to buy a house here.
(2) A recruiter recently convinced me to go for a longshot job opportunity at a very prestigious firm, but I'm hesitant to leave my current firm. The new firm would be much more difficult work, I would be low on the totem pole, and I would be expected to bill more hours and be available basically all the time, but it would pay at least $230,000 before bonus. I've never done this type of work before, so I'm afraid it will cause me undue stress trying to learn the practice area, new systems, and new coworkers at a time when I'm trying to have kids (late in life), but I also realize the money could be life changing. I'm also very close to some of my coworkers and would have a bit of FOMO if I left knowing they'd all stay close and be able to socialize while I'd be toiling away alone at my new job. I know some of these concerns are silly, but I have trouble with envisioning what my future could look like and would appreciate perspective from those who have made a move or chose not to for whatever reason and how it worked out for you. I wish $150,000 was enough in my state to buy a house, but between my and my partner's student loans, it's just not enough right now.

Agree with A1. The money does not compensate for the mental, physical and emotional toll.
How many hours are you billing per year now? How many per year expected at other firm?
My minimum now is 1950, and I typically bill around 2100 to get more bonus, but the billing is largely very easy. The new job would be 2000 minimum to receive bonus and cravath scale pay/bonuses.
which practice area would u be switching to?
High profile commercial litigation, some defamation, unfair trade practices, etc.
