I started at that 12 years ago! I once interviewed at a law office to find out they were paying $8.35 per hour for a paralegal role. I asked if I were on Punk'd. I was not worried about offending this attorney because the $8.35 was more than offensive. Target and HEB pay double that! With those wages, I would qualify for SNAP and section 8 housing.
I did a quick Google search and saw that law office is now "permanently closed". I wonder why. 🤔.
It is important to know the average pay in your area based on your experience. In Texas, the Texas State Bar Paralegal Division is a great resource. If your state has such an organization, I strongly suggest membership or at least looking at their resources.
EDIT: I looked up the firm. It is a disability firm. Yea, that is the going pay for disability law. That is what I started in. It does not pay well. I worked at Heard & Smith for four years starting at $15.00 an hour and only got 10 cent per hour raises. It was a great stepping stone though. Four years later, I now make a little over $90k in salary and bonuses in personal injury.
