That’s not a bad commute. There’s a lot you can do with extra $80k.
I love this response. Time v money.
Im going back into the office full.time and I kniw im going to miss my lunchtime playing with my dog's
Work hours, WLB, team, benefits are also part of the equation. Don’t forget those. But for 20-30 minutes that isn’t bad.
I wouldn't do it. The flexibility of being remote is insane and can't be bought with 80k.
The commute seems reasonable, but you can't put a price on more time with family, pets, etc. As an introvert, I value peace and quite over office gossip, politics, etc. and would rather make a little less to work remotely every day.
Negotiate 4 days if possible. 5s tough if you are not used to it.
Thanks for the input. I'm actually quite surprised at how one sided this is. The current role is with a tech company so it's more flexible. The new role is with an investment firm so will be more demanding. I wish the comp diff is smaller so it's easier to decide😟
Seems like it’s one sided because of how the original question was framed - that the only variable that mattered was remote vs. on site
There is so much you can riding a subway! Sleep, read, catch up on home stuff. And definitely so much can be done with 80k
What’s the current and what’s the new role?
Yeah industry title can be inconsistent. I'm level 4 which is the manager level across the company. But I definitely function as a senior tax manager.
Is this the same city or would you have to move for 300k?
I’ve been remote for years and took on a role that’s hybrid and I hate it. Not 80k raise but 40k and the commute is 20 mins. I hate being in the office. It’s super unproductive. I’d say depending on your needs and your family’s needs. If you’re single or have kids. Insurance is another thing to consider as well as PTO. But if your current job has great benefits, great teammates, chill boss and you don’t need the extra $ to pay for childcare, don’t leave. Money will come eventually:)
Just ask yourself whether an extra hour or two of work a day is worth the tradeoff of 80k (well, not even 80k post-tax). Only you can determine whether the flexibility of your current job is worth the extra money, depending on your hobbies, behaviors, current/future goals, retirement plans.
Hello, I hope to be a partner with you in working to exchange experiences and cultures between us. I am waiting for your approval.
thank you.
Fully remote all the way.
