My boss (controller) has 8 weeks vacation she just started last year 😕, meanwhile I been with the company 7 years and have less then 4… currently looking for a remote position
Where I'm from in Europe, five weeks is considered standard, if not a little bit low. A lot of people take off for the majority of the summer. Since moving to the United States, I really miss that, lol.
I’ve heard of people being able to “grandfather” their current vacation time when negotiating a new job. Depends on the situation, but can’t hurt to try. Especially when you have many years in the industry, why step backwards to being “new” and getting the minimum PTO due to company tenure? Some companies are flexible, some very rigid but this could be a good perk to ask for if the salary isn’t up to par.
Couldn't agree with you more. I always try to negotiate for additional PTO time. It's the most important workplace perk, and with so much of my family living in different states, it's essential for me to get as much PTO as I can so I can spend time with all of them.
Everyone's situation is different. 5 weeks would be wasted on me, I barely find time for three, have four and two weeks occasional leave.
I have negotiated more (company only offered 2), but some companies have it so entrenched, they will not add a day.
Ask, its probably easier than more money at some companies.

You can definitely try to add it to negotiations but I’ve never personally had much luck. 5 is so short :( but about the same as me after 3 YOE
