5 years in investment banking, my friend / business partner has 10 years in T1 strategy consulting and did a top 5MBA. We want to join forces and buy a 1M ebitda business. The prospect of having freedom doing our own thing and having an asset that compounds is exciting.

Only thing is he makes about 500k a year and is on track for partner promotion and I also make 375k-500k a year depending on bonus.

It almost seems risk adjusted it would make more sense to just stay in our careers no?

Completed all the interviews and had positive feedback but before the offer I spoke with the recruiter (third party) and asked them if I can get to a certain compensation number as I might have couple other offers around that number but they got back saying the firm has decided to move on as they cannot match it. What can I do now? Still interested in the role.

Is it just in my experience or are recruiters/hiring managers really reluctant these days to discuss salary bands for a given role? My logic for asking is to determine if I should consider a given role or pass if doesn't meet my salary requirements rather than continue additional interviews and find out later. Thoughts?

Some Business Intelligence/Analyst roles are very data heavy. I wonder why these roles do not have the term “data” in them, and wonder if it’s to keep the salary lower than it should be. I have colleagues doing intense data science tasks as BI Analysts, and can’t help but feel indignant on their behalf because when hearing their job title, one would underestimate their technical ability.
