Little confused. Is total comp massively off market as well or just base? If just base stuck it it with a place that likes you. If total comp is off you need to make a decision about how big a discount is ok. I take a20% haircut on total for a with life balance and sponsorship mix I like.

Sponsorship to progress within the firm is much more important than the short-term salary freeze issues. Will take you a while to find new sponsors at the new place.
I completely agree with deutsche above. Sponsorship is a tough thing to build and nurture. Hopefully the short term pain will be offset by the long term gains
If you don’t have sponsorship at your PE fund, then should you leave?
Also, you just don’t fit and are unhappy and are undercomped.
And could go to another company that would instantly raise your comp.
I guess I just answered my own question...
It can be difficult. Some firms pay above or below street average. My firm initially hires you on slightly below but it’s fairly efficient on working with performers to get mid year pay grade bumps. Mines slated in 2 months already. They adjust us base on performance to you to street or slightly higher as a wait and see.
