What is the usual procedure companies do follow while giving offer letter to a potential employee with a notice period? How the date of joining and all will be decided ?

I have notice period of 30 days but I can serve only for 28 days. Will I have to pay notice pay for 30 days or 2 days?

Do a lot of seniors in the advisory groups work weekends? I am coming from a group that has busy seasons sometimes we don't get a day off for a few weeks before the deadline. 80-100 hour weeks for me.

For those that work for Amazon in there accounting and tax department, what has your experience been like and how did you land your job?

The partner in charge of my office had a nearly hour long conversation Tuesday with our new hire, behind closed doors. I didn’t hear yelling, but the bits I heard weren’t good. Will he be fired?

We stay until 8 or 9 everyday and then at the end of every week my manager tells me to book only 40 hours. It sucks ass and now I have to explain to my counselor why my utilization is so pedestrian...

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

Considering a position as accounting manager at a pre IPO biotech (IPO in one year). I would report to the VP.
